32nd Woodlawn Christmas Pudding Run.

Whitley Bay. 26th Dec.

This is AW report/results.
Whitley Bay, Tyne & Wear
Calum Johnson repeated his 2016 victory in this popular Boxing Day event, organised by North Shields Poly, with proceeds going to the Woodlawn Special School.
Conditions remained bright and dry but temperatures had certainly dropped in the 12 hours before the start.
Johnson, recently runner-up in the county Cross Country Championship, narrowly headed a group of five athletes, after the first loop (2km), before making his bid for victory after the halfway point. Johnson crossed the line 14secs ahead of Scott Beattie, who is currently on vacation from his American University. Ross Floyd, winner in 2012 and 2013, finished in third position.
Danielle Hodgkinson easily won the Womens' race finishing in 11th position overall in the record field of over 1000 runners. Her margin of victory was 1min 42secs over Cambridge University student, Rachelle Falloon. Hodgkinson had previously won here in 2015, was second last year and had been placed every year since 2012.

Additional Comments: Results courtesy of myself with help from Bill McGuirk (with some names). Information about record entry from announcer. Another amendment to course because of ongoing building works (this time they ran on promenade rather than start area, after first loop). Did not recognise 12th runner who outsprinted S Schubeler (Heat) (13th in 17:48). G Routledge (dressed as Santa) clocked 48:18 (-1:30 it took to cross line). Reg Checkley clocked around 42mins. A Morpeth Harrier (did not recognise) running with a dog, finished in first twenty but missed start.
